IN 1847, THE UNITED STATES DEFEATED MEXICO IN A TWO-YEAR CONFLICT KNOWN AS THE MEXICAN WAR. WHEN THE PEACE TREATY WAS SIGNED IN EARLY FEBRUARY 1848, MEXICO WAS FORCED TO CEDE AN ENORMOUS SWATH OF TERRITORY, INCLUDING CALIFORNIA, TO THE UNITED STATES. NEITHER COUNTRY WAS YET AWARE THAT GOLD HAD BEEN DISCOVERED JUST DAYS BEFORE. HOW MIGHT THIS HAVE CHANGED THE OUTCOME?
Our passion to move even further west was suddenly halted by Mexico .Before the Mexican American War had about half of the modern United States territory. This all changed during the war. Almost right before the war we had bought some of Mexico’s territory. What we both didn’t know is that this territory was filled with gold. So if Mexico had known of this gold in the land they just sold they could have the possibility of winning the war. They could pay or more soldiers and weapons with this gold. If America had known of this gold along with Mexico then they probably would have gone to war over the land before hand.
The outcome of the Mexican- American war has brutally changed the diversity of ethnic groups and the gold mines. The Americans felt that the Mexicans were terrible before the war, but after the war the some Americans felt okay about them because they had served them in the war, and others still thought they were awful people. So the things that went down at the gold mines varied from brutal murder to outstanding acts of kindness.
After the war Mexicans were still treated badly. After the war Mexicans still lived within American territory. They did the same thing as us, lived in the same places, maybe even worked with us, but this changed nothing about our feelings towards Mexico. Mexicans that lived and worked close to Americans were still treated badly. Americans may have disliked them because we beat them in the war, or even because since we had beat them, Americans may feel that they do not belong in America, working beside Americans. Americans may believe this with any ethnic group. It's just that they didn’t believe that they belonged there.
The American miners could be blamed for the outcome of the war. this all leads back to the gold mine were the Americans wrongfully accused some Mexicans leading them to not getting a lot of gold. Had the gotten enough gold, they could pay for more weaponry, and more soldier, which they could use to win the war. So if you think about all of this then the Americans destined the outcome of the war with their racism, ethnic diversity. The whole war has caused many difficult relationships with different countries and has gained us many riches and land.
